- Playing 8 ball, can I use the opponents ball to bank off, to make my shot?
- Charles McGurk, Columbus
- Yes you may. In pool language it would be called a "kiss shot."
- Randy Goetlicher
- Where would I find some static practice drills that will help me from missing shots I use to never miss?
- Wylie Yates, lenexa
- Go buy yourself some paper hole reinforcers at Office Supply. Put them on the table just like the shots you miss. Now you can shoot those shots over & over again.
- Randy Goettlicher
- When you buy a new cue and the tip isn't really rounded, mostly flat with sharp sides should I leave it like that or can I get a better shot by reshaping it? Also, what should I use to reshape it?
- Quenton, Las Vegas
- Most of us like to have our cue tips shaped like a nickel or dime. Nice and round on the top.
Any Pool Retailer will have a "Tip Shaper" that you can purchase.
Good shooting,
- Randy Goettlicher
- Hi I would like to know if it is legal in 8 ball to play a combo starting with the 8? My grampa told me the 8 is nuetral so its legal. But I have heard so many rules on this I dont know which way it goes. Also If a ball is knocked off the table is the opponent awarded ball in hand?
- Stephen Hammonds, Mt. Pleasant, NC
- The 8-Ball is not neutral. You may use it in the middle of a combination but it may not be the first ball you contact.
If a ball is knocked off of the table it is not spotted and it is ball in hand for the opponent.

- I haven't shot pool in years. Recently a friend of mine challanged me to a game of 8 ball. I out shot him, but at the end of the game, he had 3 balls on the table, and I was shooting the 8 ball. I called the shot, but I missed the 8 ball. He said I lost, because I had to hit the 8 ball. Is this correct. Thank You.
- Larry, Delray Beach Fl
- No, it is not a loss. It is ball in hand for the opponent if you did not make a legal hit on the 8-ball.
- Bill Stock
